Collision claims the lives of Sac State student and 20-year-old passenger

A fire truck responding to an emergency call crashed into a vehicle and claimed the lives of two students early Saturday morning.

Kirsten Ross, a 20-year-old Sacramento State student, was traveling westbound on L Street with 20-year-old Nancy Gonzalez of Roseville when she allegedly failed to stop at a flashing red light at the intersection of 9th and L Streets, said Public Information Officer for the Sacramento Fire Department Jim Doucette. ASI '08 elections heat up

Although Associated Students Inc. had trouble filling its vacant positions after members were found ineligible earlier this semester, the student-body government didn't seem to struggle with getting candidates to run in its elections this year.

Twenty-four candidates are campaigning for the ASI elections taking place at the end of April. Of the candidates, 21 of them - five more candidates than last year's total - are running for 14 positions on the ASI Board of Directors. (2) comments

Students rally against budget cuts, fees

When Ashley Andreoni found out that she was pregnant last spring, she had a difficult decision to make: finish school or drop out to get a full-time job.

Andreoni, junior English major, decided to stay in school, but she is worried that budget cuts and fee increases will make it difficult for her to graduate. (2) comments

Student injured in fatal downtown crash taken off life support

Collision with firetruck claims two lives

A 20-year-old Sacramento State student injured when the car she was driving was struck by a Sacramento Fire Department truck was taken off life support and died today, according to media reports.

Kirsten Ross' 2004 Honda Civic was hit by a fire engine around 2 a.m. Saturday as she crossed the intersection of 9th and L Streets. Her passenger, 20-year-old Nancy Concepcion Gonzalez of Roseville, was pronounced dead at the scene. (2) comments
