Prop. 8: No simple solution available

Those of you who showed up to protest or support Proposition 8 this past week did participate in the system, but it remains unclear what impact your presence had. (6) comments

Simply put, Charles Postel, assistant history professor, is one of the best things that has ever happened to Sacramento State. In a time in which we struggle for a positive image, we have a faculty member that Ivy League colleges would love to have. (1) comment

Last week, some Aggie hooligans vandalized our campus with permanent markers and chalk. (11) comments

Oh-bama. I sat there with you on Tuesday with millions of Americans, our eyes filled with tears as you finally were crowned Miss Teen USA. Or, wait, president-elect. But doesn't it feel like that? A pageant? (2) comments

Smokers in the United Kingdom might soon be banned from being foster parents, according to the Mail Online website. Redbridge, located in East London, is said to be the first council in the country to ban foster parents who smoke, no matter how old the child is that they want to look after, according to the website. There's a peculiar calm settling across the quad. The entire campus seems somewhat reafflicted by this epidemic of indifference. (0) comments

Dr. Alexander Gonzalez

I want to commend Sacramento State's students for their remarkable contributions at two campus events I have attended recently. (0) comments

If you're reading this - you probably couldn't go to Nevada, Virginia, New Mexico or another swing state to help bring hope and change to America on Nov. 4. But fear not. We can make history at Sacramento State by uniting as Californians to stop Proposition 8. (0) comments

The power of students

No matter who you voted for, the real winners of this election was you, the youth voters. According to CNN, in California alone, more than 850,000 voters younger than the age of 30 went out to vote. This is a big deal and let me tell you why. (0) comments

This Halloween, please look out for yourselves. The Hornet knows that reminding readers about the possibility of death or paralysis isn't sufficient to prevent someone from driving drunk. (0) comments

Two awful choices for president this year

We all can agree on the significance of the upcoming presidential election. With that being said, it's utterly depressing to contemplate how pathetic both choices are. (7) comments

Dearest Hef, Really sorry to hear about your breakup with your No. 1 gal, Holly Madison. (0) comments

Stephanie Meyer's Twilight series is to young women today what Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles was to our mothers and older sisters. There is just something irresistible about the idea and the fantasy behind an undead man. (5) comments

The State Hornet staff discusses propositions on the California ballot. (3) comments

Sacramento State is making good on its goal of becoming a more energy-efficient campus. Last week, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger announced California State University's partnership with SunEdison, a company that specializes in solar energy solutions. Staples, Whole Foods, Kohl's and CalTrans also use SunEdison's services. Sac State is a relative late-bloomer when it comes to dealing with SunEdison. CSU Chico, San Luis Obispo and Dominguez Hills each partnered with the company in 2006. CSU San Bernardino joined in 2007. The Hornet is excited for the green energy initiative, even though it believes this should have been accomplished sooner. (0) comments

The price of parking

It may be price gouging, or it may just be the result of our slumping economy, but one thing is certain: Sacramento State students can expect another fee increase with a necessary campus service. (2) comments

The beauty of being on a university campus every day is seeing the diversity of views of my fellow students. It is encouraging to see how outspoken people are about their beliefs. While there is no "wrong" opinion, there is an ignorant one. (2) comments

It's well after midnight on a school night and the television lineup consists of can't-miss deals, pseudo-religious figures spewing nonsense and more cleavage than could possibly be healthy. (0) comments

I've just finished watching a commercial from the advertising campaign Above the Influence. You know, those extremely factual commercials that show legit reasons for not smoking weed? (6) comments

Political initiatives are the artillery used in the war between anti-gay extremists and gay rights. (15) comments

'Mean girl' is just confused

Lindsay Lohan, you seem a little confused about something so basic - what gender you want to make out with. (2) comments
