The sounds of hip-hop, rap and pop music resonated through the University Union as several sororities and fraternities have their sixth annual yard show in Serna Plaza today.

With good weather and good music surrounding the crowd of more than 100 people, Greek members started to dance along with the music, to the crowd's delight.

"It's gotten bigger every year," said Parnell Sullivan, a senior business major and member of Phi Beta Sigma.

Sullivan said the event encourages the Greek organizations to mingle with each other, creating a sense of community. The organizations also help spread word of community work that each one is doing.

"Because of the sunny day, it really sets the mood," said Jakeem Hawkins, a communications broadcast major at Sierra College. "There's a pretty good turnout as well."

"It's great that they brought a whole bunch of sororities (and fraternities) here," said Myca Taylor, a sophomore biology major. "Instead of being labeled as just doing hazing, (the organizations) are actually part in school activities."
