The Pita Pit is a tasty alternative to your local burger joint. It offers delicious and nutritious eats such as pitas and salads. Filled with vegetables, meat and cheese, the pitas are stuffed to your heart's content. For a price of $6 you can get a healthy and filling lunch.

Food

First, choose the meat combination you want. Choices include chicken breast, bacon, turkey, ham, roast beef, lamb and tuna. There are also vegetarian options such as a falafel or hummus. Then, get your pita stuffed with as many veggies as you wish. Choose from lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, olives, sprouts, onions, spinach, mushrooms, pineapples, cucumbers and cheese. Stuff it with all the produce you want. The more veggies you add, the healthier and more filling the pita will be. Finally, finish off the pita with your choice of sauces. The sauces include caesar, honey mustard, mayo, teriyaki, salsa, ranch and a secret sauce (Greek Italian).

You can customize your pita to include the items you like. I ordered the chicken breast and stuffed it chock-full of veggies. The end result was a massive and healthy pita that filled me.

One downfall of the pita is that the way it is stuffed. Some bites were packed with veggies and no meat, while other bites were just meat and no veggies. I found myself rearranging the insides of the pita to get a more even taste.

They also serve salads and breakfast pitas.

Value

The pitas average about $5 to $6. Depending on what you have the pita stuffed with, it can be very filling. The meat was proportionate, but the pita would be skimpy if not accompanied by a plethora of vegetables. The pita left me full and satisfied and is a healthier option than a big burger that will cost just a little less.

Service

The service was mediocre. We were greeted and served. I felt slightly rushed as I contemplated which veggies I wanted in my pita and even felt mild anxiety upon contemplating which sauce to have drizzled on my pita. The employees were still friendly as they tried to get the lunchtime rush through.

Environment

The walls are splashed with bright colors of red, green and yellow. The restaurant was clean and kept.

The Pit was noisy during my visit there. It was the lunchtime rush, and the cook was chopping and banging away on the grill. The meat sizzled loudly as it cooked.

Overall

Many locations are open late. The location near campus, at 65th and Folsom Boulevard, is open until midnight on Sundays through Tuesdays and open until 3 a.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays.

I would recommend the Pita Pit for a healthy alternative. It is something different than a sub sandwich or hamburger. The pita left me satiated and feeling proud for eating a very filling but healthy lunch.
