Working in a place where I am the only male, it's hard not to be involved in the world of "female" magazines, especially when it's laid out in the break room. It never fails; there will always be a Cosmopolitan, or another magazine of that kind, sitting on the table.

I have gotten used to the bright colors, the gorgeous airbrushed celebrities and the ridiculous thickness of the magazine. It is the titles on the cover that I can never miss. They always jump out at me like a bag of marijuana on a teacher's desk.

"100 ways to please your man."

"What girls are really craving."

"What he wants in the bedroom."

You don't have to read magazines like Cosmopolitan, Vogue or Men's Fitness to see the covers that display these words. Whether you are online or in line, you will find something that will offer advice on how to enhance your sexual life with your partner.

Now for those of you thinking, "I'm a sexual god. What more can I learn?" You above all people can learn a lot, Hercules. But how helpful are these sex tips from the newsstand lips?

Senior business major Surbir Gill reads Cosmopolitan, Lucky and Vogue.

"They all give the same advice," she said.

I can't help but agree with Gill. Not only is the advice similar, but it is also very obvious.

"They are very obscure and really ridiculous," senior history major Theran Bers said.

In one issue of Cosmopolitan, I read an article about dominating your man in the bedroom. The title aimed along the lines of "One thing your man desires in the bedroom but won't admit."

Now, I have never slept with any of my guy friends, but I can certainly tell you that almost all of them like to be dominated in the bedroom.

How do I know this? Because guys will and do talk. Saying a guy likes to be dominated in the bedroom isn't a secret. It is like being surprised when a guy says he enjoys head.

I'm not saying it's wrong to read these articles. A lot of them are very entertaining and on the rare occasion will include something enlightening.

Sophomore mechanical engineering major Doug Trent explained that there's nothing bad about them. If you read them and learn something new, then try it out.

"I won't mind," he added as he gave a devilish grin to his girlfriend.

If you want to know what pleases your man or woman, ask. Like all the advice you may read from those magazines, it's simple and obvious. Talk to your significant other. Ask them what they like. Chances are, the answers you get from your significant other will be far more useful.
