If you're looking for some religious direction, you may want to check out Mission242, a new campus club that was recently approved by Associated Students Inc.

The group's religion is Apostolic Pentecostal and its doctrine is based on the second chapter of the book of Acts in the Bible.

The organization hopes to "help students 'get connected' and bridge the gap from college to career by investigating truth claims using a Biblical world view, and by providing a community for fellowship, singing, and prayer (Acts 2:42)," according to its mission statement.

Josiah Aston, junior music education major and active member of the group, talked about one of many events that students can look forward to.

"We do different events such as this one coming up on Thursday called 'Survive.' We'll be handing out free survival kits," he said.

I'm making the survival kits a teaser, ladies and gentlemen. If you'd like to find out more about what Survive has to offer, wander by the group's first meeting.

The meeting is tomorrow at 8 p.m. on the second floor Lounge of the University Union.

Mission242's members welcome everyone to check them out.

Faith Lopez, sophomore piano performance major and member of the group, said locations of meetings will be convenient for busy students who don't have the time to travel off campus.

"We meet at school for students who prefer to have activities on campus," he said. "It's easier because we're here and people can come and see us."

If you can't make it this week, Mission242 will hold meetings every second and third Thursday on campus. If you're one of those students looking for some religious experience on campus, now's your chance.

Sounds like a great idea. Sometimes the busy and/or hectic school schedule makes it a little hard to take time out for spiritual focus and enrichment. (Continued…)
