Bar near university closes



The Library Eats and Drinks, a dance club and concert venue adjacent to Sacramento State, officially closed its doors in late August.

The closure came after the bar's liquor license was suspended for not serving food, a violation of the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control. The venue's license had been suspended once before after employees were caught serving alcohol to minors.

The club was is also known as the location where Sac State student Kebret Tekle, 20, was shot and killed last May.

The venue is presently fenced off with a "For Lease" sign in the parking lot.

Provost nominated for presidential position



Joe Sheley, Sacramento State's provost and vice president for Academic Affairs, was nominated for the position of Florida Gulf Coast University president.

According to the News-Press website, Sheley was one of 67 candidates.

FGCU's Associate Vice President for Curriculum and Instruction and Chair of the presidential search commitee Peg Gray-Vickreysaid said each candidate possessed executive leadership experience.

Ultimately, Sheley, who was not actively pursuing the position, was not chosen. Brad Bradshaw, another candidate, was awarded the position on Aug. 13

Sheley refused to comment.
