Sami Field-Pollisso led the Hornets in scoring with 14 points, going 4-11 from the three-point line. Junior leading scorer Atty Boyer added twelve points and sophomore Charday Hunt contributed ten to round out Hornet scorers in double figures.
Hornets had 19 turnovers and Gonzaga capitalized, making 21 points off of Hornet errors. Field-Pollisso leads the Hornets in assists this season with 20, an average of 2.5 per game. Next on the team is Emily Christensen with 9. No one on the team has more assists than turnovers, and it proved to be a problem against the Zags.
The Hornets got the score to within four with three minutes to play, but couldn't overcome the hot shooting of the Zags Michelle Elliot, who led all scorers with 31 points.
Heather Bowman wasn't far behind with 28 points and eight rebounds. Elliot and Bowman contributed for 59 of the Zags 75 points. Jami Bjorklund was the only other teammate close to double figures with eight points.
With the loss, the Hornets drop to 1-7 on the season. Gonzaga moves to 6-3.
The Hornets next game will be against the University of Pacific on Tuesday at 7:05pm at the Hornet's Nest.
