In an effort to bolster student awareness, Associated Students Inc. has formed a marketing department and has created a new resource - a newsletter dubbed Associated Students Today - to help spread the word.

The newsletter debuted in January with the first edition covering many of the important programs and activities of ASI programs.

"Every student here at Sac State is already a member of ASI because of enrollment," said Angela Hong, marketing coordinator of ASI. "We are like a big family."

The focus of the newsletter will mainly be to let students know about ASI programs, as well as letting them know about current issues.

"We would like to see students be more involved with ASI so that they know what is offered," newsletter editor Angelique Bernal said.

"ASI funds many on-campus programs, such as the business office, aquatic center, peak outdoor adventures, community service opportunities and the children's center. These are programs that students may not know about," Bernal said.

The newsletter is available at the ASI offices and is also included in notebooks currently being distributed by ASI in front of the bookstore. The newsletter is available online as well at the ASI website.

ASI members contribute by writing, researching, editing and photographing events to be published.

"We hope students pick it up and are interested," Bernal said.

ASI producing a newsletter is an obvious indicator that the State Hornet isn't adequately getting the news out about ASI's programs and services.

I'm not saying the State Hornet needs to be a shill for ASI. (Continued…)

Talk about another case of wasteful spending at Sac State. I can't wait for Jordan's take on this.
