Art show focuses on environmental issues

Sacramento State's Witt Gallery is currently hosting a free exhibition called Art with the Earth in Mind.
The exhibition, open from noon to 4:30 p.m., is one of many events that Sac State is holding in observance of Earth Day, which takes place on Tuesday.
Located in Kadema Hall, the show features 27 pieces of work created by elementary school students, Sac State students and community members as well.
The show's curator, Sue Anne Foster, says this show is unique because the artists created their work to draw attention to our planet and to our need to take care of it.
"I hope the pieces stimulate interest and ideas," Foster said. "It's great because people can come together on a common expression, and you don't always get that at other galleries."
This is the first time Sac State has hosted a gallery show for Earth Day, and Foster says she hopes it will spread more knowledge to the community about how important it is to sustain our Earth.
The pieces offer a wide variety of topics including nature, global warming, overpopulation and the West Nile virus.
The show also features work done by students at Glenwood Elemantary school, where Foster also teaches art. The students have been learning line and shape in their art classes and are happy to know their pieces are on display, Foster said.
The closing reception for the show will be today at 5 p.m. Visitors who come to the gallery reception will get a chance to speak to the artists whose work is on display.
