Coach named Coach of the Year

In his third year as the women's tennis coach, Dima Hrynashka was named Big Sky women's Coach of the Year. He led the team to a 21-6 overall record and a 10-0 Big Sky record.



Katz loses one player but gains four

Six-foot-tall point guard and Big Sky Freshman of the Year Vinnie McGhee Jr. will not be returning to the Sacramento State men's basketball team in the fall. Brian Katz announced on Thursday that McGhee asked to be released from his scholarship following the spring semester.

Katz signed two players on April 29 and two more on Friday. Fresno City College's point guard Mike Marcial, American River College's combo guard Jared Stigall and forward Michael Selling, and Irvine Valley College's forward Aj Kapanoske will enroll as juniors in the fall.



Women's basketball coaches lend a helping hand

The coaching staff of the Sac State women's basketball team will host the Hornet Girls Basketball Camp, which will take place June 23-26 at the Hornets Nest. The camp will be for girls from third grade through high school. After the camp, Sac State will host its High School Team Camp from June 27-29 at the Hornets Nest.



Hornets win Green-Gold scrimmage

The football team's offense won the Green and Gold Spring Game off of a pair of late touchdowns by sophomore running back Bryan Hilliard. The offense beat the defense 25-22 on Saturday at Hornet Stadium.



More records broken on the track

Shot putter Ify Agwuenu broke a school record at the Asics/Steve Scott Invitational on Sunday at UC Irvine. The freshman threw for 47-07.75.

Senior Ashley Ast threw the javelin for 115-00 placing second at UC Irvine for a NCAA regional mark.



Four men's tennis players earn all-conference honors

Sophomore Anton Stryhas, and freshmen Kiryl Harbatsiuk and Artur Klimenka were named to the all-Big Sky first team, and junior Sven-David Rueff was named to the second team. Stryhas was named the Most Valuable Player.



Senior earns Player of Week honor

Jody Johnson was named the Big Sky Conference Men's Track Athlete of the Week during the final week of April after helping the track and field team in a two-point victory over UC Davis in the Causeway Classic.

Johnson ran the 100 .31 second faster than the runner-up with a time of 10.49. He posted a time of 21.06, .74 seconds faster than the runner-up in the 200 and won the 4x100 with his teammates with a time of 40.93 seconds.



Five women's tennis players earn all-conference honors

For the second consecutive year, sophomore Katrina Zheltova was named MVP. Zheltova and junior Anastassia Lyssenko were named to the all-Big Sky first team for the second year in a row, while junior Karina Jarlkaganova earned second team honors. Juniors Joyce Martinez Gutierrez and Luba Schifris and sophomore Aileen Tsan earned honorable mention honors.



Junior catcher earns third Player of the Week honor

Jamie Schloredt was named the Pacific Coast Softball Conference Player of the Week as Sac State swept Santa Clara in a four-game series. The junior went 7 for 13 (.538), with two homers, one triple, one double, four RBI, two walks and four runs during the sweep.
