Seven Sacramento State athletic programs will be penalized according to a Academic Progress Rate report recently released by the NCAA.
The number of different programs penalized was the most of any Division I school in the country, resulting in scholarship reductions in the respective programs.
Men's baseball, basketball, football, golf, indoor and outdoor track and women's tennis were all affected by lower rates.
"While we are not happy with the situation, we are confident the programs set in place will move us forward in the right direction," said Director of Athletics Terry Wanless.
The NCAA Academic Progress Rate, which measures collegiate graduation rates among student athletes, is based off of academic eligibility and retention rate statistics.
Look for in-depth coverage in the Wednesday print edition to find out how the athletic department is making efforts to improve athlete academics.

in-depth coverage in Wednesday's print edition... why? Who cares about the athletic programs on campus? The only people that care of the athletes themselves. (Continued…)

All the teams penalized (except for one) are men's. Interesting how the women's teams at Sac State do better academically AND in their respective sports. (Continued…)
