Robyn does her own thing on new album

The United Kingdom's newest import, Robyn, is making a comeback in the states with her new album titled "Robyn." Many of us may remember her song from 1997 "Show Me Love," but no longer will she be known as the girl who was a one-hit wonder in the '90s.
Robyn's new album is a mix of electric pop and hip-hop beats that will get the party started at any club or inspire any woman who is in a 20-mile radius with her lyrics.
Dubbed as the UK's Britney Spears, Robyn puts Ms. Spears to shame. With evolved lyrics and complex beats, Robyn can out-sing and out-perform Spears in her sleep.
After her short-lived success with her single in the '90s, Robyn decided to take a break after her record label in 2002 wanted to ship her to America as a mirror image of the Britney- and Christina Aguilera-template that was in during that time.
"I think the third record I made was a big compromise," said Robyn.
That is why this time around she was going to be in control of her creative freedom. So instead of signing with a major record label, this time she took control of her own destiny and created Konichiwa Records, of which she is CEO and her own boss.
This may have been Robyn's smartest move. With her own creative freedom she has put together a masterpiece that she can be proud of. It is different from anything that is out right now and is worth spending $15 for her CD.
My favorite track on the album has to be "Konichiwa Bitches." With rap-style lyrics like "I'm so hot that when I rob your mansion / you ain't calling the cops you call the fire station," Robyn makes a song about how hot she is an anthem that women can listen to when they need a pick-me-up on a bad day.
My only suggestion is that you give her album a chance. It is very Euro and has tracks that are reminicient of Cyndi Lauper and Kylie Mongue. With kick-ass songs like "Konichiwa Bitches" and "Handle Me," Robyn is sure to make her mark in America.
If you open any music magazine, Robyn is plastered all over its pages. In the last few months Robyn has been featured in "Rolling Stone," "Vibe" and "Spin." With critical acclaim and the goods to back her up, Robyn is well on her way to platinum - well, platinum blonde at least.
