The Hornets Volleyball team beat the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks in four games on Saturday night. The win gives the Hornets a 6-4 record in the Big Sky Conference and leaves the Lumberjacks with a 5-6 record.

Sacramento State started the match out slowly. They lost the first game 25-22. The Hornets managed 15 kills to the Lumberjack's nine. However, they made three times as many errors which cost them the win.

The second game was more evenly matched. The score was tied 13 times with the game ending in extra points. The Hornets come out on top with a final score of 29-27.

Sacramento State started out the third game by losing the first five points. They fought their way back into the game but trailed behind the Lumberjacks until finally tying it up at 21-21. The two teams struggled to gain the lead; the score was tied three more times until the Hornets pulled ahead to win the game 26-24.

The Hornets dominated the fourth and final game. Less than half-way through the game Sacramento State took the lead and never gave it back. They held a six-point lead at multiple times during the game and won with a kill by Outside Hitter Desiree Hoyum. The final score was 25-20.

Sacramento State was coming off a loss to the Northern Colorado Bears the previous night so the win was an important one for the team's morale. Senior, Katie Van Der Wende was excited with the win.

"It's huge coming off of the loss from last night," she said. "It was great to win on our home court."

The team had been struggling with starting of the game strongly.

"I think that since yesterday everything came together," Van Der Wende said. "We passed well and our hitters connected better."

Freshman, Eryn Kirby, who had 11 kills and 12 digs in the match said that her team played hard the whole time.

"We're still in it for our conference," she said "[The win] will definitely get us pumped up because we will be on the road for the five days."

Coach Ruben Volta said that his team fought hard for the win.

"It's a really big win. Any win is a big win right now."

Coach Volta mentioned that his team showed some of their strong points during the match-up.

"I think we started playing good defense. We had a lot of blocks."

The Hornet's next home game is against Eastern Washington on November 21st at 7:00pm.
