Little disagreement at ASI debate

The two candidates for Associated Students, Inc. director of Social Sciences and Interdisciplinary Studies held a debate in the Library Quad Thursday.
The candidates spoke to a crowd of than two dozen people. About a third were supporters for Rylan Gervase, two supported Patricia Mata and a handful of other students.
Gervase and Mata both stressed the need to have more school spirit on campus and have more free events. The two mentioned how the campus is deserted on the weekends and there needs to be more things for students to do.
"I value honest, hard work and passion and that's what I'm going to be bringing into my position as director if I'm elected," Gervase said.
"I've been here for three years at Sac State," Mata said. "I know what students struggle with."
Gervase said he would like to see campus mascot Herky the Hornet walk around campus and have there be an alumni mentorship program.
"I know what is takes to actually work together and work as a team," Mata said of her experience with students clubs.
Both candidates stressed that their youth and willingness to be open-minded will help them work with all students issues and needs on campus.
