Sacramento State's Student Fashion Association to hold student-run fashion show

Sacramento State's Student Fashion Association will be hosting a fashion show titled "Lights, Camera, Fashion! A Red Carpet Affair," Tuesday at 7 p.m. where student designers will show off their collections.
The Fashion Show will be held in Sac State's University Union Ballroom and will feature 11 designers, including designs of Sac State students and students from UC Davis and American River College.
The show will also include local retailers and boutiques such as Old Navy, Krazy Mary's, Sugar Shack, Serendipity and Britt Steele.
Brianne Weber, senior apparel marketing and design major and model for the show, said that the show is expected to highlight a wide spectrum of designs.
"We have some designs that are definitely pretty elaborate, like evening gowns. We have some with a gothic feel and some with a futuristic feel that are inspired by stars and outer space…," said Weber. "So really the designs are all over the place."
Each designer is responsible for styling his or her models. Weber said that some designers hire makeup artists and hair stylists, while others do the styling themselves.
Natasia Berry, senior apparel marketing and design major, said models were chosen for this event through an open modeling call to all local Sacramento residents of all sizes. Berry said some models are Sac State students, while others are not.
Weber, who will be returning as a model for her second SFA show, said she enjoys seeing all the hard work come together just before the show.
"My favorite part is probably getting prepared before the show because it's exciting. All the designers come together with their complete looks and get it on the models," Weber said.
Sarah Lapp, president of SFA, said SFA is focusing on letting everyone on campus know that SFA is a club that is a respectable group and has the ability to host large events.
The SFA's goals are to educate and promote careers and lifestyles within the fashion industry.
Lapp said that in addition to the runway show, Tuesday's event will have DJ Gino from KSFM 102.5 providing music and Sac State's Salsa Loca club presenting a small performance at intermission.
"We felt it would be a good idea to have another form of entertainment and Salsa Loca graciously volunteered to do a performance for us," Lapp said.
The SFA has been presenting a fashion show each semester on campus since the early 1990s. This year's show is expected to be bigger than ever, said Berry.
This year's production will cost $10 for admission. Although students, family and friends usually attend the event, the fashion show is open to all members of the public.
Berry said the show is expected to last an hour and a half to two hours and provide guests with light snacks like cake, cookies and refreshments at the end.
Audience members will also have an opportunity at the end of the production to talk to the designers, models and SFA officers of the club. There will also be SFA information booths on display.
"Our goal this year is to make this a huge production," Berry said.
